AVFILM BRINGS EDUCATIONAL FILM SERIES TO NORTH BAY
Explore the language of filmmaking with AVFilm Director of Programming Mike Traina in a new five-part film series, Through This Lens.
Healdsburg, Calif. (November 8, 2022) – AVFilm will present Through This Lens, a new educational film series in Healdsburg and Cloverdale, spanning November 2022 through March 2023. Mike Traina, Director of Programming, will focus each lecture and discussion on key elements of film design.
Audiences are encouraged to take advantage of the cozy fall and winter months and join AVFilm in these interactive sessions. Traina will set the stage before each screening so that viewers can observe visual storytelling through a new perspective as well as lead a talk back after the film.
Tickets are $15 for General Admission/$5 for Student Admission. Series Passes are $60 for General Admission/$25 for Student Admission. The first two sessions will be hosted at Young & Yonder, a chic urban distillery in downtown Healdsburg. Concessions and cocktails will be available for purchase at the screenings. The film was awarded Best Feature and Best Director at the 2019 Independent Spirit Awards and Regina King won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Director Craig Gillespie takes a darkly comedic approach as he tackles one of the most notorious and sensational scandals in sports history: the ill-conceived and poorly executed attack on Olympic ice skater Nancy Kerrigan. Told through multiple perspectives over a span of twenty years and accompanied by an expertly constructed soundtrack, I, Tonya offers humor, insight, and a great deal of empathy toward Tonya Harding, a working-class sports hero that everyone loves to hate. The film was nominated for three Oscars, including Best Actress for Margot Robbie and Best Supporting Actress for Allison Janney (who won as Harding’s mother).

The first AVFest featured 24 films across four days on four screens in two cities.
