Synopsis: Overwhelmed by her suffocating schedule, touring European princess Ann takes off for a night while in Rome. When a sedative she took from her doctor kicks in, however, she falls asleep on a park bench and is found by an American reporter, Joe Bradley, who takes her back to his apartment for safety. At work the next morning, Joe finds out Ann’s regal identity and bets his editor he can get an exclusive interview with her, but romance soon gets in the way.

Love Note: Sometimes the most memorable love is one in which a lifetime can be shared in a single day. Roman Holiday crystallizes in its purest form what many of my favorite William Wyler films, including “Dodsworth” and “The Best Years of Our Lives,” explore: How foreign geography can both isolate and provide a moment of clarity, informing lives going forward. I first saw Roman Holiday while pulling an all-nighter during high school. I was mesmerized — not just because of Audrey Hepburn, who instantly became my favorite actress, but the fact that Gregory Peck was a journalist, my chosen field. – Roman Holiday was selected by Allen Johnson, senior film writer for The San Francisco Chronicle.
