Synopsis: A gay cabaret owner and his drag queen partner agree to put up a false heterosexual front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée’s conservative parents.

Love Note: Love finds itself in many forms. In family, in relationships, in homoerotic soup bowls. In Mike Nichols’ The Birdcage, it’s all of these and more. Nichols and longtime writing partner Elaine May had a keen eye for detail and in casting for their remake of the French hit La Cage aux Folles. There’s always a fine line between laughing at and laughing with and they knew that none of the high comedy would work were it not for the deep connection Robin Williams and Nathan Lane have with each other and that we have with them. That it’s not the family that prays together but the family that slays together that stays together. That there’s healing in humor and everyone can look fierce in the right wig. Birds of a feather, as the saying goes. The Birdgage was selected by Erik Anderson, founder and editor-in-chief of Awardswatch.com.
